Industrial Flow Meters for Liquids and Gases
Seacom supplies industrial flow meters, flow switches, flow transmitters, mass flow controllers and related accessories for measuring water, oil, diesel, fuel, crude palm oil, chemicals, compressed air and process gases.
The correct flowmeter depends on the fluid, flow range, viscosity, conductivity, pressure, temperature, pipe size, required accuracy and output signal. Seacom supports applications ranging from simple local indication to batching, totalisation, alarm switching and integration with PLC, BMS and process-control systems.
Choosing the correct flowmeter technology
- Positive displacement flowmeters: Direct volumetric measurement for oil, diesel, fuel, lubricants and other clean liquids, including higher-viscosity applications.
- Magnetic flowmeters: Low-maintenance measurement of electrically conductive liquids such as water, wastewater and compatible process fluids.
- Variable-area flowmeters: Simple local indication for liquids or gases, including low-flow and purge applications.
- Mass flow meters and controllers: Precision gas measurement and automatic flow control for laboratories, analysers, semiconductor equipment and gas-processing systems.
- Orifice and differential-pressure flowmeters: Direct-reading flow indication for compatible liquids, compressed air and process gases.
- Flow switches: Flow-presence or low-flow alarm signals for equipment protection and process interlocking.
- Ultrasonic and vortex flowmeters: No-moving-parts measurement for suitable clean liquids, chemicals, ultrapure water or gas applications.
- Pitot-cell flowmeters: Economical indication of larger water flow rates with relatively low permanent pressure loss.
Flowmeter selection by application
Information required for flowmeter selection
- Fluid and composition: State the liquid or gas, concentration, contamination risk and whether solids or bubbles may be present.
- Normal and maximum flow: Provide the minimum, normal and maximum operating flow rates together with the required engineering unit.
- Pressure and temperature: Specify normal and design conditions at the actual flowmeter installation point.
- Pipe and connection: Confirm nominal pipe size, pipe material, flange or threaded standard and available installation length.
- Fluid properties: For liquids, provide viscosity, density and electrical conductivity where relevant.
- Required function: Choose local indication, totalisation, pulse output, analogue output, communication, switching or automatic control.
- Accuracy and turndown: Define the required measurement uncertainty and usable flow range instead of selecting by pipe size alone.
- Installation conditions: Identify straight-pipe availability, orientation, vibration, hazardous-area classification and environmental protection requirements.
Common industrial flow measurement applications
- Fuel consumption and transfer: Diesel, kerosene, fuel oil, lubricants and compatible petroleum products.
- Palm-oil processing: Crude palm oil and compatible refined-oil transfer, batching and consumption measurement.
- Water and HVAC systems: Chilled water, condenser water, heating water, domestic water and utility monitoring.
- Chemical and ultrapure-water systems: Compatible process chemicals, clean fluids and semiconductor utilities.
- Laboratory and analytical gases: Gas indication, mixing, dosing and precision mass-flow control.
- Machine and process protection: Flow switches and alarm contacts for pumps, cooling circuits and process interlocks.

Need help selecting an industrial flowmeter?
Do not select a flowmeter from pipe size alone. Contact Seacom with the fluid, minimum and maximum flow, pressure, temperature, viscosity, pipe size, connection, required output and accuracy. Our team can recommend a suitable flowmeter technology and model for your application.
