The Tokico MBA Series uses an electrical trip signal to release CO₂ from a cartridge into a cylinder actuator, closing a ball valve to isolate a pipeline. The cartridge supplies the mechanical energy for closure, without requiring a plant compressed-air supply.

An electrical signal operates the solenoid valve. CO₂ is then released into the actuator cylinder, moving the piston and closing the ball valve. The triggering signal can originate from an appropriately configured control panel connected to detection equipment.
The CO₂ cartridge powers the actuator; it does not eliminate the electrical requirements of the MBA solenoid, control panel or detectors. Specify the control supply and any backup power together with the shutdown system.

The MBA is specified for emergency isolation. Routine flow-control duty, automatic restart and retrofit to an existing valve require separate confirmation.
