The Tokico MBA Series uses an electrical trip signal to release CO₂ from a cartridge into a cylinder actuator, closing a ball valve to isolate a pipeline. The cartridge supplies the mechanical energy for closure, without requiring a plant compressed-air supply.

How the MBA Valve Operates

An electrical signal operates the solenoid valve. CO₂ is then released into the actuator cylinder, moving the piston and closing the ball valve. The triggering signal can originate from an appropriately configured control panel connected to detection equipment.

The CO₂ cartridge powers the actuator; it does not eliminate the electrical requirements of the MBA solenoid, control panel or detectors. Specify the control supply and any backup power together with the shutdown system.

Control and Installation Requirements

  • Fluid and pressure: provide the medium, normal and maximum pressure, fluid temperature and required leakage performance.
  • Pipe connection: confirm nominal size, flange standard, facing, installation orientation and available space.
  • Trip signal: identify the detector or control panel, signal arrangement, supply voltage and any backup-power requirement.
  • Valve feedback: specify whether open/closed indication or optional limit switches are required.
