Indicating Flow Meters for Liquids and Gases
Indicating flow meters provide a local reading for operators checking flow through equipment, pipework and process systems. This category includes instruments for liquid or gas service, with the suitable technology depending on the fluid and operating conditions.
Options include glass or acrylic tube meters, metal tube variable-area meters and electronic flow meters with displays. Not every model measures both liquids and gases; select a meter calibrated and configured for the intended service.
Choose the Right Instrument Type
| Instrument type | Typical purpose | What to check |
| Purge and panel flowmeter |
Local indication of small flows in equipment, sampling and purge systems. |
Calibrated fluid, scale range, valve position, mounting and connections. |
| Glass or acrylic tube flowmeter |
Direct visual flow readings for compatible liquids or gases. |
Tube and seal compatibility, temperature, pressure and installation orientation. |
| Metal tube variable-area flowmeter |
Local indication where operating conditions require a suitable metal measuring tube. |
Fluid properties, construction materials, pressure rating and optional electrical outputs. |
| Electronic flowmeter with display |
Local readings with options for remote monitoring or totalisation. |
Measurement principle, fluid suitability, power supply and output requirements. |
Ryutai Kogyo Flowmeter Families
- PGH, GPB, GPC and AMF: purge and panel-mounted options for small-flow applications.
- GTF, ATF, GTV and ATV: tube-type variable-area families with different construction and connection options.
- ADF, GDF and GDR: water-flow indication across model-specific measuring ranges.
- EM Series: metal tube flowmeters with local indication and optional outputs, depending on configuration.
Information Needed for Selection
- Fluid: state the liquid or gas, composition and relevant properties.
- Flow: provide the required range and units. For gases, specify whether the values refer to actual or reference conditions.
- Pressure and temperature: include normal and maximum operating conditions.
- Installation: confirm pipe connections, mounting orientation, available space and viewing access.
- Control: specify whether you need indication only, a regulating valve, alarms or remote outputs.
Variable-area scales depend on the calibration conditions. A scale for one fluid or gas pressure should not be assumed accurate for another without checking the applicable correction or calibration.
