Onicon Electromagnetic Flowmeter FT-3000 Onicon Electromagnetic Flowmeter FT-3000

ONICON FT-3000 Series Inline Electromagnetic Flow Meters

The ONICON FT-3000 Series measures electrically conductive liquids in chilled-water, heating-water, condenser-water and other HVAC systems.

  • Inline electromagnetic measurement with no moving parts.
  • FT-3100 and FT-3200 transmitter options.
  • Flow-rate and totalisation outputs, depending on configuration.
  • Integral or remote transmitter mounting.
  • Individually wet-calibrated with a calibration certificate.

ONICON FT-3000 Series Inline Electromagnetic Flow Meters

The ONICON FT-3000 Series measures electrically conductive liquids in HVAC and building-services systems. Typical duties include chilled water, heating water, condenser water and domestic water flow monitoring.

Each meter is wet-calibrated and configured for its application before delivery. A calibration certificate accompanies the meter, helping document the installation and commissioning process.

Key Features

  • Inline electromagnetic measurement with no moving parts.
  • FT-3100 and FT-3200 transmitter options.
  • Flow-rate outputs and programmable pulse outputs for totalisation or alarms.
  • Integral or remote transmitter mounting.
  • Configuration selected to suit the fluid, pipework and control system.

Compare FT-3100 and FT-3200 Transmitters

FeatureFT-3100FT-3200
Published accuracy band ±0.4% of reading at 3.3–33 ft/s ±0.2% of reading at 1.6–33 ft/s
Network options Modbus RTU Modbus RTU, BACnet MS/TP or Modbus TCP/IP
Analogue outputs One One or two, depending on configuration
Enclosure IP67 / NEMA 4X nylon IP67 / NEMA 4X painted aluminium

Different accuracy limits apply below the stated velocity bands. Confirm the chosen outputs, power supply and network option in the complete order code.

Flow Measurement for Data Centre Cooling

For a data-centre cooling project, start with the circuit you need to monitor: a main chilled-water header, an individual branch or the condenser-water system. Provide the minimum, normal and maximum flow so the meter can be assessed across the actual operating range.

Specify the liquid composition and conductivity, including any glycol concentration. The published minimum conductivity is 5 µS/cm; confirm suitability for the actual fluid before selecting the meter.

If the project requires cooling-energy measurement, define the temperature measurements and calculation system as well as the flow input. Flow measurement alone does not provide cooling capacity or energy consumption.

Selecting the Meter Configuration

Selection itemInformation to provide
Liquid Fluid name, additives, conductivity and compatibility requirements.
Flow range Minimum, normal and maximum flow, including low-load operation.
Pipework Pipe size, material, connection standard and available installation space.
Operating conditions Normal and maximum fluid temperature and pressure.
Control-system interface Analogue, pulse or network connection and available power.
Transmitter location Access for reading and servicing; integral or remote mounting.

Choose the liner, body and connections together. Their limits determine the suitability of the complete assembly.

Installation Planning

The catalogue recommends 3 pipe diameters upstream and 2 downstream for best results. Its zero-straight-run statement is conditional on the specified test conditions; ask for installation guidance before relying on it. Grounding rings are required for non-metallic or lined pipework.
