Kofloc RK120XM Flow Meter for Gas Mixing

Kofloc RK120XM Flow Meter for Gas Mixing combines two to four variable-area flowmeters into one compact unit for simple multicomponent gas mixing.

Each gas line has an individual inlet, calibrated flow scale and precision needle valve. The individually adjusted gases combine and leave through a common mixed-gas outlet.

  • Mixing of two to four gas lines
  • Individual flow indication and adjustment for each gas
  • Flow ranges from 50 mL/min to 10 L/min
  • Maximum 10 L/min per line and 20 L/min total
  • Standard accuracy of ±2% full scale
  • Precision non-rotating needle valves
  • Brass or stainless-steel construction
  • Suitable for laboratory and research gas mixing

Kofloc RK120XM Flow Meter for Gas Mixing

The Kofloc RK120XM Series is a multiple variable-area flowmeter designed for simple mixing of two to four gases. Separate gas supplies are connected to the individual inlets, and the mixed gas is discharged through a common outlet.

Each channel includes its own calibrated flow tube and precision needle valve. This allows the operator to observe and adjust every component flow independently before the gases enter the common mixing manifold.

The RK120XM is suitable for laboratories, research systems, pilot equipment and other applications requiring straightforward manual adjustment of gas mixtures.

Key Features

  • Available with two, three or four gas-flow channels
  • Individual inlet connection for each gas
  • Common outlet connection for the mixed gas
  • Separate calibrated flow scale for every channel
  • Precision needle valve for fine flow adjustment
  • Non-rotating needle design for stable control performance
  • Measures flow rates as low as 50 mL/min
  • Maximum flow of 10 L/min per line
  • Maximum combined flow of 20 L/min
  • Standard measurement accuracy of ±2% full scale
  • Optional higher-accuracy and wider-scale configurations
  • Supplied with a supporting stand
  • Simple construction for easier inspection and maintenance
  • Cleaned parts for clean-gas applications
  • RoHS compliant

How the RK120XM Mixes Gas

  1. Connect each gas supply to its designated inlet.
  2. Set the required inlet pressure according to the selected flowmeter configuration.
  3. Open each precision needle valve gradually.
  4. Adjust each flow until its float indicates the required value on the scale.
  5. The individual gas streams combine inside the common manifold.
  6. The resulting gas mixture leaves through the shared outlet.

The gas-mixing ratio is established from the relationship between the individual channel flow rates.

Example of Gas Mixing Ratio

Gas lineSet flowMixture concentration
Gas A 8 L/min 80%
Gas B 2 L/min 20%
Total 10 L/min 100%

This example assumes both readings are expressed under the same reference conditions and that the flowmeters are correctly calibrated for their respective gases.

Typical Gas Options

  • Nitrogen
  • Air
  • Oxygen
  • Hydrogen
  • Helium
  • Argon
  • Carbon dioxide

Each flow tube should be calibrated for the actual gas passing through that channel. For other gases, gas mixtures or unusual operating conditions, confirm whether actual-gas calibration or an approved conversion factor is required.

Brass and Stainless-Steel Options

ConstructionMaximum temperatureSelection consideration
Brass construction Up to 70°C General compatible laboratory and industrial gases
Stainless-steel construction Up to 120°C Higher-temperature service or applications requiring stainless-steel wetted parts

Confirm the compatibility of the process gases with the selected body, sealing and wetted materials before ordering.

Typical Applications

  • Laboratory gas mixing
  • Research and development systems
  • Gas analyser calibration
  • Controlled-atmosphere experiments
  • Combustion and burner testing
  • Environmental testing
  • Gas sensor evaluation
  • Protective-atmosphere supply
  • Pilot plants and test equipment
  • Educational and training laboratories

Important Operating Considerations

  • Maintain stable inlet pressure for every gas channel.
  • Use pressure regulators upstream of the RK120XM where required.
  • Read each float at the reference position specified for the flow tube.
  • Install the unit vertically to preserve variable-area flowmeter accuracy.
  • Use clean and properly filtered gases.
  • Avoid exceeding the rated temperature and proof pressure.
  • Ensure the mixed-gas outlet does not create excessive back pressure.
  • Recheck all individual flows after adjusting any channel.

Manual Gas Mixing Limitation

The RK120XM is a manually adjusted variable-area gas-mixing flowmeter. It does not automatically correct the mixture ratio when supply pressure, downstream pressure or operating conditions change.

Applications requiring automatic ratio control, programmed recipes, electronic communication or continuous compensation should use a gas-mixing system equipped with suitable mass flow controllers.

Information Required for Selection

  • Number of gases to be mixed
  • Name and composition of every gas
  • Required flow range for each channel
  • Required final gas-mixture ratio
  • Required total mixed-gas flow
  • Gas inlet pressure for each channel
  • Mixed-gas outlet pressure
  • Operating temperature
  • Required measurement accuracy
  • Brass or stainless-steel construction
  • Required inlet and outlet connections

Gas Safety

Gas compatibility and safety requirements must be reviewed before installation. Oxygen, hydrogen, flammable, toxic and corrosive gases require suitable materials, regulators, ventilation, leak testing and operating procedures.

Do not mix gases that may react dangerously with one another. The completed gas system should be designed and approved by a competent person for the gases and operating conditions involved.
