Anritsu HR Series Handheld Temperature Measurement

The Anritsu HR Series is designed for accurate portable temperature measurement in production, maintenance, quality control, laboratories, food processing and industrial troubleshooting. A wide range of interchangeable probes allows the same thermometer platform to measure stationary surfaces, rotating objects, liquids, air, food, fine components and other specialised targets.

Anritsu reduces errors caused by temperature changes around the input connector by using thermocouple-compatible material through the input section and integrating the reference junction with its compensation system. The result is stable measurement even when the instrument moves between different working environments.

The displayed system uncertainty is the combined effect of thermometer accuracy, reference-junction compensation, probe accuracy, environmental temperature and the contact achieved at the measuring point. The probe normally contributes more to the practical result than the display resolution alone suggests.

Waterproof Models and Connector Selection

HR-1100/1150, HR-1200/1250, HR-1400/1450, HR-1650 and HR-1750 provide protection equivalent to IPX5. Use an HR model with the waterproof ANP connector when water resistance is required at the probe connection.

  • ASP connector: Used by HR-1100, HR-1200, HR-1300, HR-1301, HR-1400 and HR-1500 models.
  • ANP connector: Used by HR-1150, HR-1250, HR-1350, HR-1351, HR-1450, HR-1550, HR-1650 and HR-1750 models.
  • A waterproof thermometer still requires the correct compatible probe and properly seated connector.
  • IPX5 protects against water jets; it does not make the thermometer suitable for immersion.
  • HR-1300/1350 and HR-1500/1550 are not waterproof models.

HR-1500 and HR-1550 Memory Models

The memory models store up to 19,999 readings. Measurements can be saved manually or at intervals of 1, 5, 10 or 30 seconds and 1, 5, 10, 30 or 60 minutes. Stored data can be reviewed on the thermometer or transferred to a Windows PC using the optional communication cable and AMS-350 software.

Use memory models for inspection rounds, heating and cooling trials, oven checks, equipment verification or any application where the measured values must be reviewed after the work is complete. They are portable loggers rather than networked continuous-monitoring devices.

Popular Anritsu Temperature Probes

The probe should be selected for the measurement target, not just the expected temperature. These commonly specified Anritsu probe families cover surface, internal, food and moving-surface measurements.

Check the complete probe code before ordering

Match the probe’s thermocouple type and connector—K or E, ASP or ANP—to the thermometer model. Also confirm the measuring range, contact-head construction, stem dimensions, cable material and cable length. The wide input range of the thermometer does not extend the probe’s own limits.

Surface Temperature Measurement

Surface measurement accuracy depends on contact, not only instrument specification. Select a sensing head that fits the target, hold it squarely against a clean surface and wait for the reading to stabilise. Curved, rough, very small or rapidly moving targets need a probe specifically designed for that geometry.

  • Do not use excessive force; it can damage the sensing head or change the contact condition.
  • Keep the handle and cable away from hot zones beyond their stated limits.
  • For rotating surfaces, approach only from the approved direction and remain within the probe’s speed rating.
  • Repeat the measurement at several positions when the surface may have a temperature gradient.

Internal, Liquid and Food Measurement

Insertion depth must be sufficient to minimise heat conduction along the probe stem. For liquids, stir or move the probe gently when appropriate, while keeping the handle and connector outside the liquid. Food probes should be cleaned and sanitised using a method compatible with the probe materials.

Never use a sharp penetration probe on moving machinery or where it could injure the operator. Review both measurement and hygiene requirements before selecting a food or process probe.

Calibration and Measurement Confidence

Calibrate the thermometer and probe together when the complete measurement system must be verified. A calibration of the display alone does not include probe error, connector condition or the practical contact uncertainty at the target.

  • Inspect the probe tip, cable and connector before every measurement session.
  • Allow the instrument to stabilise after moving between different ambient temperatures.
  • Use a suitable traceable reference and document the thermometer and probe serial numbers.
  • Set calibration intervals according to accuracy needs, frequency of use and operating severity.
  • Do not use Calibration Set merely to hide unstable contact or a damaged probe.
