Measurement Notes

For these examples, Anritsu specifies a tolerance of ±2.5°C at a surface temperature of 100°C and a response time of 2 seconds under its test conditions. These figures are not a guarantee of the same performance on every surface.

The sensing head rating does not establish the permitted temperature of the cable or connector. Keep those components within their respective limits.

Choosing the Right Magnetic Probe

  • Target surface: confirm that the material accepts a magnet and that the head can sit securely. Not every metal is suitable for magnetic attachment.
  • Contact conditions: check surface shape, coatings, cleanliness and access. Poor contact can affect the reading.
  • Temperature: select a head and cable combination suitable for the complete operating conditions.
  • Instrument connection: match the thermocouple type and connector to the thermometer or data logger.
  • Measurement task: these probes measure the contacted surface; do not assume that reading equals an internal fluid or process temperature.
