Sato SK-170GT WBGT Heat Stress Monitor is a portable all-in-one instrument for assessing heat stress in indoor and outdoor working environments.
It measures and displays the WBGT index, ambient temperature, globe temperature and relative humidity. Its built-in black globe detects radiant heat from direct sunlight, hot machinery and surrounding surfaces.
The Sato SK-170GT is a portable WBGT heat stress monitor designed to evaluate hot indoor and outdoor environments. It combines temperature, humidity and radiant-heat measurements to calculate the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature index.
WBGT provides a practical indication of environmental heat stress and can help safety personnel determine when controls such as hydration, rest periods, shade, ventilation or reduced workload should be considered.
The SK-170GT is suitable for workplace heat-stress assessments, construction sites, manufacturing plants, warehouses, agriculture, schools, sports facilities and outdoor activities.
| Measurement | Purpose |
|---|---|
| WBGT index | Indicates the combined environmental heat load affecting the human body. |
| Ambient temperature | Measures the surrounding air temperature. |
| Globe temperature | Detects radiant heat from sunlight, machinery and hot surrounding surfaces. |
| Relative humidity | Indicates the moisture level that affects the body's ability to cool through evaporation. |

The effect of solar radiation differs between indoor and outdoor environments. The SK-170GT therefore provides separate IN and OUT measurement modes.
| Mode | Recommended environment | Heat factors considered |
|---|---|---|
| IN | Indoor locations or outdoor locations without direct solar exposure | Humidity, air temperature, ventilation and radiant heat |
| OUT | Outdoor locations exposed to direct sunlight | Humidity, air temperature, airflow and solar radiant heat |
Select the correct measuring mode before beginning an assessment. Position the instrument at the work location and allow the readings to stabilise before recording the WBGT value.
