Measurement Notes

The illustrated configurations have a specified tolerance of ±2.5°C at a surface temperature of 100°C. Tolerance increases at higher temperatures; for example, the A-*4* group is specified at ±16°C at 800°C.

*Response time is measured to 99% of the true temperature on a flat, smooth metal surface. Contact quality and the target’s thermal behaviour affect actual measurements.

Anritsu reports more than 75,000 contacts under its specified durability test conditions. This is not a guaranteed service life. The sensing head, cable and connector have separate temperature limits.

Selecting a Surface Probe

  • Surface and temperature: provide the target material, finish, normal temperature and expected peaks.
  • Contact area: check the usable surface area and whether the sensing head can sit flat.
  • Access: identify the required reach, angle and clearance around the measurement point.
  • Handling: choose the grip and cable arrangement for the intended use, with adequate support to avoid pulling the probe away from the surface.
  • Instrument: match the thermocouple type and plug to the thermometer or data logger.

Replacing an Existing Probe

For an older A Series or N Series probe, send the full reference and a photograph of its head and connector. We can review the operating conditions and identify a suitable configuration rather than selecting by appearance alone.
