Measurement and Durability Notes

*Tolerance is specified on a stationary, flat, smooth metal surface. Response time is measured to 99% of the true value on a flat, smooth metal surface. Actual moving-surface performance depends on contact conditions.

Anritsu reports more than 1,000 continuous hours for SH-1/SH-3 and more than 1,500 hours for SH-2/SH-4 in its durability test on a smooth surface moving at 200 m/min. These are test results, not a guaranteed service life or a universal allowable speed.

The sensing head temperature limit does not establish the permitted temperature of the grip, cable or plug.

Choosing a Probe for Your Measurement Point

  • Target geometry: provide the surface diameter or flat contact area, width and available clearance.
  • Motion: include the direction of travel, surface speed and any vibration or runout.
  • Surface condition: describe the material, coating, roughness and contamination that may affect contact or wear.
  • Probe support: explain whether the probe will be held or installed in a fixture, and how the cable will be supported.
  • Measurement objective: identify the process location, normal temperature and expected peaks. Surface temperature may differ from the temperature inside the target.
  • Instrument connection: match the thermocouple type and connector to the thermometer or data logger.
