The INFICON Whisper detects ultrasonic sound produced by leaks and certain mechanical faults. It helps maintenance teams investigate suspected leak locations in compressed air, pneumatic and vacuum systems.

How Ultrasonic Leak Detection Works

Gas moving through a small opening under a pressure difference can generate ultrasound. Whisper converts detected ultrasound into audible sound through headphones, helping the operator trace its source.

This method detects sound rather than identifying the gas. Results depend on the leak conditions, access and competing ultrasonic sources.

Typical Inspection Tasks

  • Compressed air: investigate suspected leaks around connections and fittings.
  • Vacuum systems: trace air entering through leaking points.
  • Machinery: use the optional contact probe for checks on bearings and other components.
  • Enclosure seals: use the optional Whisper Transmitter to investigate sound escaping through gaps.
