Vaisala DL1700 Thermocouple Data Logger for viewLinc CMS

The Vaisala DL1700 is a four-channel thermocouple data logger for continuous monitoring and validation work at extreme temperatures.

  • Overall application range from −240 to +1760 °C, depending on thermocouple type
  • Accepts J, K, T, E, R and S thermocouples
  • Four thermocouple inputs plus an internal cold-junction reference
  • Works with Vaisala viewLinc for monitoring, alarms and compliant reporting

Vaisala DL1700 Thermocouple Data Logger

The Vaisala DL1700 is made for temperature points that cannot be covered by a conventional RTD data logger. It records up to four standard thermocouple inputs and is well suited to liquid-nitrogen storage, ovens, sterilisation chambers and other demanding laboratory or industrial applications.

Connected to the Vaisala viewLinc Continuous Monitoring System, the DL1700 provides historical and real-time data, remote alarms and controlled reporting. It can also be used with Vaisala vLog for validation and mapping work.

At a GlanceDL1700
Overall application range −240 to +1760 °C, depending on thermocouple type
Temperature inputs 4 thermocouple channels
Supported thermocouples J, K, T, E, R and S
Power Internal lithium battery with a specified 10-year life at intervals of one minute or longer

When to Choose the DL1700

  • Extreme-temperature monitoring: Use the DL1700 when the required temperature is outside the practical range of an RTD logger. The usable range depends on the selected thermocouple.
  • Several points at one location: Four thermocouple channels allow one logger to monitor several positions in a chamber, oven, freezer or process area.
  • GxP monitoring or validation: Select the appropriate DL1700 configuration for continuous viewLinc monitoring or for validation and mapping with vLog.

Typical Applications

  • Liquid nitrogen and cryogenic storage: Temperature monitoring at very low temperatures using a suitable thermocouple.
  • Ovens and heat-treatment equipment: Multi-point monitoring across a chamber or process.
  • Sterilisation chambers: Recording high-temperature cycles for monitoring or validation.
  • Laboratories and test facilities: Flexible measurement where different thermocouple types are already in use.
  • Industrial processes: A compact alternative to bulky data-acquisition equipment for selected monitoring duties.

Thermocouple Selection

The DL1700 accepts six common thermocouple types. Select the thermocouple according to the required temperature range, probe construction, accuracy and process environment.

ThermocoupleDL1700 Measurement RangeCommon Use
Type T −240 to +350 °C Cryogenic and low-temperature applications
Type J −130 to +900 °C General industrial temperature measurement
Type E −110 to +740 °C Low-temperature and general-purpose measurement
Type K −220 to +1370 °C Wide-range ovens and industrial processes
Type R −50 to +1760 °C High-temperature furnaces and processes
Type S −50 to +1760 °C High-temperature laboratory and industrial work
Important: The logger’s overall range does not mean every thermocouple covers −240 to +1760 °C. Probe type, cable, insulation and installation must all be suitable for the application.

How It Fits into the Monitoring System

StageFunction
Thermocouples Provide up to four temperature inputs
DL1700 Records and retains the measurement data
Network interface Connects through Ethernet, Wi-Fi or a local interface, according to the system configuration
viewLinc Provides monitoring, alarms, audit trails and reports

For integration with other systems, Vaisala OPC software can make current or historical viewLinc data available to compatible third-party platforms.
