  • Dew point measurement range from −70 to +80 °C Td/f
  • Designed for pressurised processes from 0 to 40 bar absolute
  • Adjustable insertion depth with ISO R 1/2 or NPT 1/2 process connection
  • Optional ball-valve kit permits insertion and removal without shutting down the process
  • Use with Modbus RTU, an Indigo transmitter or the portable Indigo80 handheld indicator

Vaisala DMP8 Dew Point and Temperature Probe

The Vaisala DMP8 is designed for continuous low-humidity measurement in pressurised pipelines. Its sliding compression fitting allows the insertion depth to be adjusted so the sensing head can be positioned correctly in the process.

With the optional ball-valve installation kit, the probe can be inserted into or removed from a pressurised line without stopping the process. This makes the DMP8 a practical choice for compressed air, industrial gases, drying systems and other applications where measurement availability and service access are important.

Why Choose the DMP8?

  • Built for pressurised pipelines: continuous measurement at process pressures up to 40 bar absolute.
  • Adjustable installation depth: position the sensing head correctly inside different pipe sizes and process connections.
  • Service without process shutdown: the optional BALLVALVE-1 kit allows insertion and removal from a pressurised line.
  • Stable at low dew points: DRYCAP technology provides fast response and reliable long-term performance in dry conditions.
  • Resistant to industrial contamination: sensor purge improves chemical resistance, while the sensor tolerates condensation, oil, dust and most chemicals.
  • Flexible system connection: operate directly through Modbus RTU or connect to a Vaisala Indigo transmitter or Indigo80 handheld indicator.

Fixed or Portable Measurement

Permanent Process Installation

The DMP8 can connect directly to an automation or monitoring system using Modbus RTU. Where a permanent display, analogue output, relay or Ethernet connection is needed, pair it with a compatible Vaisala Indigo transmitter.

Portable Use with Indigo80

Connect the DMP8 to the Vaisala Indigo80 handheld indicator for portable measurement display, data logging, diagnostics, probe configuration and field calibration. A weatherproof carrying case is available for Indigo80 and a DMP8 with a suitable probe cable.

Product distinction: DMP8 is primarily an installed, adjustable-depth probe for pipelines up to 40 bar, but it can also be connected to Indigo80 for portable display and servicing. DMP80 is a separate handheld probe optimised specifically for portable spot checks and field calibration.

The DMP8 also works with Vaisala Insight PC software for configuration, diagnostics, measurement-data viewing and field calibration.

Typical Applications

  • Desiccant and compressed-air dryer monitoring
  • Pressurised dry-air and industrial-gas pipelines
  • Semiconductor and electronics manufacturing
  • Industrial drying systems
  • Metal heat-treatment blanket gases
  • Vacuum and low-humidity process systems

Installation and Ordering Considerations

Before ordering, confirm the minimum and maximum dew point, process temperature, absolute pressure, pipe size, process connection and required insertion depth. Select either the ISO R 1/2 or NPT 1/2 fitting and determine whether the BALLVALVE-1 kit is required for removal under pressure.

The measurement point should have representative gas flow and should avoid dead legs, leaks and locations where ambient moisture can enter. When direct insertion is unsuitable, an appropriate sampling cell and controlled sample flow may be used.

Pressure note: check the pressure rating of every fitting, valve and sampling accessory—not only the DMP8 probe—before installation.

Vaisala DMP Series Comparison

Choose the DMP probe according to the installation environment, process temperature, pressure and required dew point range.

ModelBest suited toDew point rangeTemperature or pressure limitInstallation
DMP1 Dry rooms, battery production and semiconductor manufacturing −70 to +80 °C Td/f Probe operating temperature −40 to +80 °C Compact fixed probe for distributed room monitoring
DMP5 Hot industrial dryers, ovens and process ducts −40 to +100 °C Td/f Process temperature up to +180 °C Long direct-insertion probe with adjustable mounting depth
DMP6 Very-high-temperature dryers, ovens and industrial processes −25 to +100 °C Td/f Direct process measurement from +100 to +350 °C Direct-insertion probe with a dedicated passive cooling set
DMP7 Tight spaces, compact equipment, dry gas and compressed air −70 to +80 °C Td/f Process pressure up to 10 bar Short 41 mm sensing head with pressure-tight fitting
DMP8 Pressurised compressed-air and industrial-gas pipelines −70 to +80 °C Td/f Process pressure up to 40 bar absolute Adjustable insertion depth with optional ball-valve installation

Quick selection: choose DMP1 for distributed dry-room monitoring, DMP5 for processes up to +180 °C, DMP6 for very hot processes up to +350 °C, DMP7 when installation space is limited, and DMP8 for pressurised pipelines up to 40 bar.

All five probes support Modbus RTU, compatible Vaisala Indigo transmitters, the Indigo80 handheld indicator and Vaisala Insight software. The final selection should also consider process gas, flow velocity, mounting access, required outputs and calibration arrangements.
