Product transition: Vaisala is discontinuing the DPT145 and advises that it must not be specified for new projects. No universal direct replacement has been announced because the correct solution depends on the SF6 equipment, required parameters, mechanical connection and monitoring architecture. Vaisala DPT145 Multiparameter Transmitter for SF6 Gas

The Vaisala DPT145 is a compact multiparameter transmitter developed for online condition monitoring of SF6 gas used in high-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers and other gas-insulated electrical equipment.

One instrument measures dew point, absolute pressure and temperature. From these measurements, it calculates SF6 or SF6/N2 mixture density, pressure normalised to +20 °C, moisture concentration in ppm and dew point converted to atmospheric pressure.

Online Monitoring of SF6 Insulation Condition

Moisture and gas pressure are important indicators of SF6 insulation condition. Online dew-point measurement identifies increasing moisture, while direct and normalised pressure measurements help reveal gradual or sudden leakage.

Combining seven parameters in one transmitter reduces the number of mechanical connections, cables and separate instruments required by an OEM or condition-monitoring system. Continuous trend data also reduces the need for manual sampling and helps avoid unnecessary SF6 release during routine checks.

Each mechanical connection is helium leak-tested at the factory. A compatible weather shield is required for continuous outdoor installation.

Important Replacement Guidance

The DPT145 combines SF6-specific calculations with dew-point, pressure and temperature measurement. A standard compressed-air dew-point transmitter is therefore not automatically a direct replacement.

Do not substitute DPT146 without an engineering review: DPT146 is intended for compressed air and does not reproduce the complete SF6-specific density and normalised-pressure functions of DPT145.

For a replacement assessment, confirm the measured gas, pressure range, required parameters, mechanical connector, electrical supply, Modbus integration, installation environment, existing controller calculations and whether a single-device or multi-instrument solution is acceptable.

Existing DPT145 Installations

For an installed DPT145, retain the full model code, mechanical-connector details, communication settings, calibration records and controller register mapping. This information is important when checking remaining product availability, arranging service or developing a replacement plan.

Continue operating and maintaining existing instruments according to the Vaisala documentation and the safety procedures applicable to SF6-insulated electrical equipment.
