Vaisala DMT153 Dew Point Transmitter for Ultra-Dry Applications

Vaisala DMT153 Dew Point Transmitter

The Vaisala DMT153 provides traceable low-dew-point measurement for ultra-dry industrial processes. It is the current replacement for the DMT152, with modern analog, Modbus and Vaisala Indigo connectivity.

  • Calibrated dew-point range from −80 to −20 °C Td/f
  • Dew-point accuracy up to ±2 °C Td/f
  • Operating pressure from vacuum to 50 bar absolute
  • Analog outputs or RS-485 with Modbus RTU
  • Compatible with Vaisala Indigo transmitters and Indigo80
  • DRYCAP® sensor with automatic calibration and sensor purge

Reliable Measurement for Ultra-Dry Industrial Processes

The Vaisala DRYCAP® DMT153 is designed for applications where a small increase in moisture can affect product quality, process stability or production yield. It measures dew point down to −80 °C Td/f and provides continuous data for process control, alarms, quality records and troubleshooting.

Its compact stainless-steel body fits OEM equipment and process installations. The transmitter can be installed directly into a suitable gas line or used with a Vaisala sampling cell when isolation, controlled sample flow or easier maintenance access is required.

Typical DMT153 Applications

ApplicationWhat the DMT153 monitorsWhy it matters
Battery manufacturing Dry rooms, dry booths, glove boxes and process equipment Helps detect moisture excursions that can affect sensitive electrode materials and cell quality
Semiconductor production Process tools, specialty-gas lines and ultra-dry enclosures Provides continuous moisture indication for tightly controlled manufacturing processes
Pure-gas systems Air, nitrogen, argon, helium and oxygen Supports moisture-quality verification during production, distribution and use
Compressed air Critical low-dew-point dryer outlets and distribution lines Confirms dryer performance and identifies moisture breakthrough
OEM equipment Compact dryers, test chambers, isolators and research systems Combines a small installation footprint with analog or digital integration

Analog, Modbus or Indigo Integration

Integration methodAvailable functionsImportant selection point
Standalone analog mode One scalable current channel and one scalable voltage channel Choose 4–20 mA or 0–20 mA, plus 0–5 V or 0–10 V
Standalone digital mode RS-485 communication using Modbus RTU Analog and digital modes cannot operate simultaneously on a standalone DMT153
Vaisala Indigo transmitter Local display, additional outputs, logging and extended system connectivity depending on transmitter Select the Indigo model according to output, display and network requirements
Vaisala Indigo80 Portable display, configuration, diagnostics, data logging and field calibration DMT153 is not compatible with the older MI70 handheld platform
Vaisala Insight software Configuration, diagnostics, temporary monitoring and calibration adjustment Use the correct service cable and a supported Windows computer

Output-mode note: a standalone DMT153 operates in either analog mode or Modbus RTU mode. If the application requires simultaneous analog outputs and digital access, use a compatible Vaisala Indigo transmitter and confirm the complete system configuration before ordering.

DRYCAP® Stability in Demanding Conditions

The DMT153 uses the Vaisala DRYCAP® 180U sensor. Automatic calibration reduces possible dry-end drift, while sensor purge heats the sensor to remove certain contaminants that could affect long-term performance. The sensor also tolerates temporary condensation and recovers when the measurement conditions become dry again.

The transmitter is supplied with factory calibration and a traceable certificate. A 24-month calibration reminder is enabled by default, although the appropriate interval should be based on the application, quality requirements and measurement conditions.

Replacing a Vaisala DMT152

The DMT153 is the current successor to the discontinued DMT152. It retains the established DRYCAP® 180U sensor, measurement range and core performance while adding Modbus RTU, Vaisala Indigo compatibility, Insight software support and an industrial M12 connector.
