Vaisala HMP1 Humidity and Temperature Probe for Wall Mounting

The Vaisala HUMICAP® Humidity and Temperature Probe HMP1 is designed for accurate ambient measurement in indoor spaces. Its compact probe head and electronics are integrated into one body, making it ideal for wall-mounted monitoring in laboratories, cleanrooms, data centres, museums, storage areas, production rooms and demanding HVAC applications.

The HMP1 provides relative-humidity accuracy up to ±1.0% RH and temperature accuracy up to ±0.2 °C under typical room conditions. It includes a traceable multipoint calibration certificate and uses Vaisala HUMICAP sensor technology for long-term measurement stability.

The probe can operate independently as a Modbus RTU device or connect to a Vaisala Indigo transmitter. When plugged directly into an Indigo200 Series transmitter or Indigo300 transmitter, it forms a neat single-piece wall-mounted system without requiring a probe cable.

Why Choose the Vaisala HMP1?

  • High Indoor Measurement Accuracy: Provides humidity accuracy up to ±1.0% RH and temperature accuracy up to ±0.2 °C at +23 °C.
  • Designed for Indoor Spaces: Optimised for reliable ambient measurement in controlled rooms and occupied indoor environments.
  • Compact Wall Installation: The integrated probe construction can be mounted using the supplied holder or connected directly to Indigo200 and Indigo300 transmitters.
  • Interchangeable Smart Probe: Measurement intelligence and calibration data are stored in the probe, supporting rapid replacement with minimal system downtime.
  • Standalone Modbus RTU: The HMP1 can communicate directly with a building-management system, PLC or other host through RS-485 Modbus RTU.
  • Sensor Purge: Chemical purge helps minimise the effects of cleaning agents and chemical contaminants on long-term measurement stability.
  • Multiple Calculated Parameters: In addition to RH and temperature, the probe calculates dew point, wet-bulb temperature, absolute humidity, enthalpy, mixing ratio and other humidity parameters.
  • Traceable Calibration: Supplied with a traceable calibration certificate covering six humidity points and one temperature point.

Common HMP1 Applications

  • Cleanrooms: Accurate wall-mounted humidity and temperature monitoring in controlled manufacturing environments.
  • Laboratories: Stable ambient measurement for research, testing and calibration areas.
  • Data Centres: Room humidity and temperature measurement for cooling control and environmental monitoring.
  • Museums and Archives: Monitoring indoor conditions around sensitive collections and stored materials.
  • Pharmaceutical Facilities: Environmental measurement in production rooms, warehouses and support areas.
  • HVAC Systems: High-accuracy room input for building automation and indoor climate control.
  • Warehouses: Monitoring conditions affecting moisture-sensitive products and raw materials.
  • Electronics Manufacturing: Humidity control in production, assembly and storage spaces.

Correct Installation for Reliable Room Measurement

  • Install the HMP1 where air can circulate freely around the probe head.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, radiant heat and nearby heat-producing equipment.
  • Do not position the probe directly above doors, windows or air diffusers.
  • Avoid locations affected by external walls or concealed hot and cold services.
  • Mount the probe at a representative height for the monitored space.
  • Use the HMP1 in indoor, non-wetting environments consistent with its IP50 rating.

Calibration and Maintenance

The HMP1 is fully calibrated and adjusted before delivery. The probe stores its own calibration information, allowing it to be exchanged without replacing the complete transmitter. Calibration and adjustment can be performed using Vaisala Insight PC software, a compatible Indigo transmitter or an Indigo80 handheld indicator.

A typical calibration interval is one year, although the correct interval depends on the application, operating conditions and quality-system requirements. Sensor purge can be scheduled or initiated when needed to help remove chemical contamination from the humidity sensor.

Other Vaisala Indigo-Compatible Smart Probes

The HMP1 is one member of the wider Vaisala Indigo smart-probe family. The same Indigo transmitter platform can be configured with different probes for humidity, temperature, dew point, carbon dioxide, moisture in oil and vaporised hydrogen peroxide measurement.
