The Vaisala MGP261 measures methane, carbon dioxide and humidity directly in raw biogas. Its in-situ design avoids a separate sampling system and helps operators monitor gas quality while protecting downstream equipment.
The Vaisala CARBOCAP® MGP261 is designed for direct measurement in raw biogas from anaerobic digestion, wastewater treatment, landfill-gas collection and related processes. It combines methane, carbon dioxide and humidity measurement in one compact instrument, giving plant operators a clearer view of gas composition without drawing the sample through external conditioning equipment.
Continuous gas-quality data can support digester control, help operators assess energy value and identify moisture conditions that may affect piping, filters or combined heat and power equipment. The probe's heated optical system is intended for wet process conditions where condensation would otherwise interfere with measurement.
The MGP261 is an in-line process analyser for biogas composition. It is not an ambient combustible-gas detector or a personnel-safety alarm. For room or plant-area gas detection, use a dedicated fixed gas-detection system selected for the applicable safety standard.

Published accuracy is specified under defined reference conditions and excludes cross-gas interference. Process pressure and temperature compensation should be configured correctly for the installation.

Choose the MGP261 when humidity is part of the measurement requirement or when methane may span the full raw-biogas range. Choose the MGP262 when the primary task is measuring low methane concentration in biomethane-upgrading offgas.

The MGP261 is available with hazardous-area certifications that support a probe section in Zone 0 and an external section in Zone 1 under the specified installation conditions. Certification markings and permitted ambient conditions vary by region and product version. The final selection must be checked against the applicable certificate, control drawing, cable-entry method, power arrangement and local hazardous-area requirements.
