Purpose-Built CO₂ Measurement for Life-Science Incubators

The Vaisala GMP231 is designed specifically for incubator manufacturers and equipment integrators. It installs through the incubator wall so the CARBOCAP® sensor head is exposed to the chamber while the electronics remain outside and thermally isolated.

This construction allows the probe to remain installed during high-temperature sterilisation, reducing the need to remove and separately decontaminate the sensor. The measurement is optimized around the common 5% CO₂ incubator setpoint while covering concentrations from 0 to 20% CO₂.

Incubator-specific design: Select GMP231 when the probe must be integrated through an incubator wall and remain in place during +180 °C heat sterilisation. For a general-purpose percentage-level probe with analogue, Modbus RTU and Indigo-transmitter options, review the Vaisala GMP251.

Pressure and temperature are measured internally for compensation. Humidity and oxygen settings must match the intended chamber conditions. Incorrect compensation values can create a systematic error even when the probe is correctly calibrated.

Calibration and Verification

GMP231 is supplied with a four-point traceable CO₂ calibration certificate. Field verification or adjustment can be performed using certified reference gas and supported Vaisala service equipment. The calibration plan should reflect incubator criticality, sterilisation exposure, quality requirements and the required uncertainty.

  • Use certified gas points that represent the incubator's working range, especially around 5% CO₂.
  • Allow the chamber or calibration setup to stabilise before recording results.
  • Confirm pressure, temperature, humidity and oxygen compensation during verification.
  • Record as-found results before adjustment and as-left results after adjustment.
  • Retain reference-gas certificates, equipment identification and calibration records.
  • Investigate chamber distribution and controller behaviour when the probe passes but the process remains inconsistent.
