The Vaisala PTB110 is a compact, low-power barometer for accurate atmospheric-pressure measurement and integration with data loggers, weather stations and environmental monitoring systems.
The Vaisala BAROCAP® PTB110 is designed for accurate barometric-pressure measurement at room temperature and dependable environmental-pressure monitoring over a wide temperature range. Its compact enclosure, low current consumption and simple electrical output make it particularly suitable for equipment manufacturers and autonomous monitoring stations.
Typical applications include automatic weather stations, marine and meteorological data buoys, hydrology stations, agricultural monitoring, environmental data loggers and laser-interferometer compensation.
| Pressure range | Recommended starting point | Selection consideration |
|---|---|---|
| 500 to 1100 hPa | General atmospheric monitoring across a broad elevation range | Provides the widest standard barometric range |
| 600 to 1100 hPa | Weather stations and environmental systems that do not require the lower range | Confirm the minimum expected station pressure at the installation altitude |
| 800 to 1100 hPa | Near-sea-level and moderate-altitude monitoring | Do not select if site pressure may fall below 800 hPa |
| 600 to 1060 hPa | Applications with a lower maximum scaling requirement | Match the receiving input scale exactly |
| 800 to 1060 hPa | Restricted atmospheric range near normal surface pressure | Offers the narrowest listed span; verify all expected weather and altitude conditions |
Range selection: use actual station pressure, not sea-level-corrected pressure, when checking whether a sensor range suits the site. Elevation and extreme weather must both be considered before selecting the lower range limit.
| Output option | Best suited to | Integration check |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 2.5 V DC | Low-voltage analogue data-acquisition inputs | Confirm input impedance, common ground and the exact pressure scaling |
| 0 to 5 V DC | PLCs, data loggers and controllers accepting a 5 V signal | Verify that the receiving input cannot overload or clamp the output |
| Frequency output | Compatible counters or dedicated meteorological interfaces | Confirm frequency range, wiring and decoding before ordering |
The output range is configured for the selected pressure span. Document both values together—for example, 0 to 5 V representing 500 to 1100 hPa—so the controller scaling can be checked during commissioning.

| Linearity | ±0.25 hPa |
| Hysteresis | ±0.03 hPa |
| Repeatability | ±0.03 hPa |
| Pressure-calibration uncertainty | ±0.15 hPa |
| Accuracy at +20 °C | ±0.3 hPa |
| Long-term stability | ±0.1 hPa per year |
| Response to a pressure step | Approximately 500 ms to full accuracy |
| Settling after power-up | Approximately 1 second to full accuracy |
| Operating temperature band | Total pressure accuracy |
|---|---|
| +15 to +25 °C | ±0.3 hPa |
| 0 to +40 °C | ±0.6 hPa |
| −20 to +45 °C | ±1.0 hPa |

The PTB110's long-term stability can reduce field-adjustment requirements, but it does not remove the need for periodic calibration. Select the calibration interval according to the required measurement uncertainty, environmental exposure, instrument history and applicable quality procedure.
Inspect the pressure tubing and static-pressure head during scheduled maintenance. A blocked, leaking or water-filled pressure line can cause a significant error even when the barometer itself remains within calibration.
