The Exotek MC-60CPA is a compact pin-free meter for rapid, non-destructive moisture checks on paper, tissue, carton and cardboard.
The Exotek MC-60CPA allows production, quality-control and warehouse personnel to check paper moisture within seconds. The spring-steel sensor is pressed against the material, and the instrument detects changes in dielectric properties caused by moisture without piercing or damaging the sheet surface.
It is suitable for checking paper rolls, stacked sheets, reams, tissue, carton, corrugated board and other paper-based products. A compact handheld design makes it practical for incoming inspection, production checks, storage investigations and final-product verification.
Important: Capacitance readings are affected by material composition, density, thickness, temperature and what is behind the measured sheet. Use the correct material code and compare readings taken under consistent conditions. For contractual or laboratory reference results, confirm the reading against the agreed gravimetric or oven-dry method.
| Material or process | Typical check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Paper rolls | Compare moisture across the roll face or between rolls | Helps identify storage, conditioning or production variation before converting |
| Sheet stacks and reams | Check several points across incoming or finished stock | Supports incoming inspection and batch comparison without damaging sheets |
| Cardboard and carton | Check board before printing, cutting, creasing or forming | Excessive or uneven moisture can affect stiffness, dimensions and processing |
| Corrugated fibreboard | Compare boards after production, storage or transport | Helps investigate warping, bonding and handling problems |
| Tissue and filter paper | Rapid comparative checks during production or storage | Provides a non-destructive screening method for delicate material |
| Printing and publishing | Check paper condition before printing or finishing | Supports consistent feeding, registration and dimensional behaviour |
| Warehouses and libraries | Screen stored paper products for moisture differences | Helps locate stock or areas requiring closer inspection |

The MC-60CPA generates an electrical field beneath its sensor. Moisture changes the dielectric properties of paper and board, and the instrument converts this change into a displayed moisture value using the selected material code.
The reading represents the material within the effective sensing field rather than one puncture point. This makes the meter fast and non-destructive, but it also means that sheet thickness, stack construction, air gaps, adhesives, coatings, printing inks and nearby metal can influence the result.
| Method | Main advantage | Best use | Limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| MC-60CPA pin-free capacitance meter | Fast and leaves no puncture marks | Routine screening, production checks and comparison across rolls, reams or boards | Reading depends on material code, density, thickness and test conditions |
| Pin-type resistance meter | Measures between inserted electrodes and can target a selected depth | Applications where small puncture marks are acceptable and resistance calibration is available | Damages the surface and results depend on electrode contact and material characteristics |
| Gravimetric or oven-dry method | Provides a reference mass-loss determination under a defined procedure | Laboratory confirmation, calibration checks and contractual testing | Destructive, slower and requires controlled equipment and procedure |
